Breast
Cancer Awareness is a campaign near and dear to our hearts. In January of
2005 my Mother, the webmaster of this web site, was diagnosed with breast cancer,
stage 2. This was the third type of cancer Sylvia had faced having
had uterine cancer and skin cancer within the past 15 years or so.
But Breast Cancer would prove to be her fiercest and most
devastating battle to come. After three surgeries and 12 weeks of
intensive chemo she was pronounced cancer free and has been
fortunate to stay cancer free for the past 4 years. She is now in
her fifth and final year of taking anti-cancer medications to help
prevent a relapse even though she had two mastectomies within a
year.
One in seven women will contract breast
cancer within their lifetime. It is curable with early detection, yearly
mammograms and continuing research to try and find a cure for this
horrible disease. Please help any way you can by displaying the pink
ribbon symbol in the war against Breast Cancer or
by donating to our favorite Charity, The Susan G. Komen Foundation,
which created the pink ribbon symbol over twenty years ago and now
involves thousands of chapters in the United States.
To Make a
Donation Through My Mother's Personal Komen Page or My Team Page:
In October of 2008 Sylvia walked with
me in
the largest 5K walk/run in the United States sponsored by the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale Susan
G. KomenFoundation Chapter in Miami, FL. There were 15,000 entries in the
Miami/Ft. Lauderdale
race and 700
Survivors who were championed as true warriors in the battle against
breast cancer. In her own words my mother said, "I have
never been so proud as when I finished the race and felt a very
special bond with these thousands of people who participated to
raise money to help find a cure. It is something I will never forget
and I am so glad I was able to fly to Miami, Florida and walk beside
my oldest daughter in 91° heat and humidity and finish the race.
Once again I had accomplished something that I would have thought
impossible five years ago."
So, as you enjoy browsing our Pink Ribbon
Accessories take a moment to think of all the Mothers, Sisters, daughters,
wives and loved ones around the world who have or will be effected by this
insidious disease. And if you are able to help
out with a donation, however large or small please visit the Official Susan G Komen web site:

To
measure your dog for a
Martingale Collar, use a soft
tape measure or a piece of
string and take the measurements
at point
A,
B,
and C in
the drawing below. Choose
the size that fits within this
range to ensure that your collar
fits perfectly.
For Sight Hounds,
the measurement at points A
and B
may be the same or very similar,
this is because their heads are
often the same size or smaller
than their necks. For
non-Sight Hounds, these
measurements will be different
and you will need to choose a
collar size that is large enough
to slip over the head (point A)
but not too large to fit
correctly at point B.
In other words,
choose the smallest size that
will still fit your dog. If
your dog has a 15 inch neck,
choose the Medium, which is
adjustable from 13-18 inches
rather than the Large, which is
adjustable from 15-20 inches.
